Wellington In Numbers

Sep 18, 2017  ·  3 min read

When it comes to understanding the New Zealand capital Wellington, it’s pretty easy to orientate oneself with a bunch of numbers. These numbers come from our friends at the Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency or WREDA, if you’re into that sort of thing. They’ve done the hard yards and compiled a number of… numbers, that can help a newcomer find their feet in the Aotearoa-ian capital.

Come with us as we look at the numbers and offer a couple of QT tips:

Geography

Wellington is only a 3hr jaunt from Sydney, Melbourne and about 3.5hrs from Brisbane. If you’re coming from Perth, or the Wild, Wild West, you’ll be settling into a 6hr flight, one that’s best done in the one leg. Though if you’re already on the North Island, it’s only a 1.5hr flight of a 7hr road trip from Auckland. Another fun fact, that distance of the Wellington CBD is just 2km across, making it a damn fine city to discover by foot.

Food + Drink

Feeling hungry yet? Wellington is home to over 750 restaurants, bars, cafes. Which is why it’s been crowned as the country’s culinary hotspot. If you need convincing, book in for either a High Tea or an opulent dinner with the team at Hippopotamus. With a focus on fine food and fresh, local produce, you’ll be left with a new love for the capital.

Weather

There’s no denying how far south the capital is. We can’t see Antartica, but there are days where you can feel the wind of the icy continent sweep over the city. Though saying that, Wellington does have an average temperature range that sits between 15-20 degrees. It ain’t Summer in Europe, but it’s pretty damn nice.

Culture

There are 55+ galleries in the city and we here at QT Museum Wellington are pretty happy to be apart of that, with works of art littering the lobby. Over 5 Oscars Awards have been won by locals. There are 363kms of walking tracks and mountain bike routes for you to go and get lost in. Though, most importantly, from the heart of Wellington, you are only 75 minutes to the award-winning wine region of Wairarapa. Cheers to that.

There you have it, Wellington in numbers.

If you’re in need of any more handy hints, ask for our concierge when you arrive. They’re full of little QT tidbits.
