Your Guide to Weekend Markets

What could be better than waking early and heading to the market to search out the best fresh produce while sipping back on a coffee made by an artisan roaster? A sleep in. That’s what could be better.

Though if you do find yourself awake early on either a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, you might want to check out some of the markets around the Harbour City.

Whether you’re looking for fashion, food or flowers, Sydney’s huge market scene has something for everyone:

The Beaches Market
A classic farmers market set up, with some of the best in local produce on the Northern Beaches. Held every Friday between 8 am to 1 pm, you’ll be hard to not walk away with a new wheel of cheese and a rack of honey comb.

Chinatown Markets
Friday nights in the city can be a little bleak of late, but if you happen to make your way down to Dixon Street in Chinatown, you’ll feel as though you just stepped out of Sydney and into Shanghai. Full of sweet eats and savoury treats, these markets won’t let you go hungry. You’re in the ‘hood you might as well stop by Emperor’s Cream Puffs.

Glebe Markets
The OG of the Saturday hipster market movement; think of the Glebe markets being the place to pick up your acai bowls, smoothies and denim threads. It’s also a top spot to grab your needs from the surrounding stalls and then make your way to the grass and take in some local tunes from the live band on hand.

Carriageworks Farmers Markets
An old rail shed that’s been converted into a massive public space, Carriageworks is the market for Saturday mornings. With a level of stalls that ranges from Smoking Gun bagels, Kylie Kwong and Vanella Cheese. Carriageworks is a great place to get to early and really play out your inner-west Sydney dream weekends

Bondi Markets
Lastly, if you find yourself in the Eastern burbs of Bondi, you’d be a fool not to check out the local markets. Running over both Saturday and Sunday, there is seriously something for everyone. Saturday sees the vibe on a more Farmers Market take on things, a great place to pick up all your provisioning needs for the week ahead. Then Sunday has a more food and fashion vibe. The fashion here is redic, think a lot of local designers that don’t want to be found just yet.
