Vivid Sydney: Must Do’s

Mar 29, 2017  ·  3 min read

words by ben stephens

There are many festivals that take over Sydney, from Good Food Month to New Year’s Eve, though nothing really comes close to that of Vivid Sydney. The largest festival of it’s kind, Vivid Sydney 2017 will be the biggest incarnation yet. With new precinct’s a huge musical offering and a host of challenging talks; this year is shaping up to be the best yet.

In order to help you out with what not to miss, here is just a taster of what you can expect to see flooding your social feeds come late May.

LIGHT
This is exactly what Sydney has been missing. A Hollywood type sign. Think of all the times you have been wandering around Circular Quay, passing the Opera House, while looking over to the Harbour Bridge. Sometimes it’s hard to remember what global city you find yourself in. But seriously, we tip this to be lighting up your Instagram feed from the start to the finish of the festival. Brought to life by Jeremy Allen and Alexander Berlage, ‘SYDNEYLAND’ is an installation spelt out with the use hundreds of LED’s to create a must see piece.

MUSIC
What is a festival without a ball to attend? This year, along with the champions at Fuzzy Australia, Curve Ball will once again take over the train yards at Carriageworks for what is tipped to be the musical highlight of the festival (apart from VividLIVE). With the likes of Safia, Tkay Maidza and Motez on the lineup, it’ll be the party you don’t want to miss. Find more info HERE.

IDEAS
Are the robots going to take over? Or is it more of a matter of when will they take over? Are we sitting on the verge of the robotic era? Vivid Ideas welcomes a host of AI hackers, developers and strategists to discuss what the future of robotics will look like. A serious discussion about how we can implement the use of AI into the creative world – makes the mind boggle. Tickets HERE

Vivid Sydney runs from May 26 to June 17 – more information HERE
