Sydney’s Top Waterfront Bars

Apr 4, 2018  ·  4 min read

We all know that Sydney is a stunning city that seems to be entirely surrounded by water (which it kind of is …). So, if we needed to choose, where are the best spots to take in a tasty tipple while enjoying fabulous water views? We’ve got our top picks sorted for your perusing pleasure …

Drinks and/or eats by the water

Opera Bar – This Sydney favourite has been around for a while and is still pumping every night of the week. The fact that it is situated right on the water next to the iconic Sydney Opera House might be a factor but it’s also a lovely spot to frequent. With an expanse of outdoor seatings (with heating in the winter), Opera Bar is the perfect spot to sit and sip. Owned by renowned chef, Matt Moran (although he does not do the food), it is a finely tuned machine. The drinks are cold, the food is tasty and the staff are swift and rather spunky.

The Theatre Bar at the End of the Wharf – This rustic gem can be found at the end of Pier 4 on Hickson Road and is part of the Sydney Theatre Company. With high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows and an uninterrupted view of the water, it’s truly a to-die-for spot for a bevvy. The food is awfully delicious as well – we suggest getting a bunch of small plates to share so you can try more of the tasty treats and stick around for sunset.

The Bucket List – Smack bang on Bondi Beach is pretty much the ideal spot for any bar. Highly sought after real estate is not all that this bar has going for it. With many, many drink options such as jugs of cocktails, local beers and many a bottle of wine – all will be satisfied. With a full-on beachy vibe, feel comfortable coming in your thongs or dressing up in your heels – you’ll see it all and all is good!

Cruise Bar – At the base of the Overseas Passengers Terminal, Cruise Bar is somewhat of a Sydney staple. Cruise Bar has recently undergone a refurb and has forgone the infamous rainbow wall but, in its place, there is a whole new fresh vibe happening. The perfect vantage point to watch the boats come to and fro, and one of the best views of the Opera House, it’s always a popular choice.

Watson’s Bay Boutique Hotel – A short ferry ride from Circular Quay, Watson’s Bay makes you feel like you are taking a trip out of the city. It’s cool and chic but also chilled and beachy. You can see the city with panoramic views of the harbour but you know that you are a little bit removed. With ample outdoor seating, umbrellas/shade included, it’s the perfect place for an afternoon sesh. The food is great – lots of delicious, fresh seafood and tasty morsels. Sit down, relax and make your way through the food and drink menus.

Fancy eats by the water

If you are after a classy feast by the sea, there are many fantastic restaurants to choose from in Sydney. They will, no doubt, be more pricey than the more casual bar options but you will definitely not be disappointed.
