Thespian Productions You Shouldn’t Miss

Jul 12, 2017  ·  3 min read

As lovers of the human expression and the world of theatre, July is a month like no other. Every theatre company in the land is in full swing and there is so much thespian magic going on that it’s hard to choose how to spend your mid-week nights. Do you venture to the Sydney Opera House to see who they’ve got directing the stage, or maybe a little more of a local production at The Old Fitz with an intimate audience of 30. Either way, you play it, you’ll be in great hands.

Either way, you play it, you’ll be in great hands.

As we’re the helpful type here at QT Sydney, we thought we would make you aware of three thespian productions that’re happening in the city this month that you’d be a fool to miss out on.

So here, from us to you:

Australian Graffiti
Sydney Theatre Company greenlit this main stage piece from the youngest playwright on their list of very talented humans and it’s easy to see why. Australian Graffiti tells the tale of a Thai family living in a small country time as the only migrant household for miles. The play looks into the themes of migrant experience and how that shapes the idea of identity and belonging in the Australian culture. Running until mid-August, this is not to be missed and your can snag your tickets HERE.

Rice
This piece by Michele Lee will no doubt stick with you as the story of two women from different worlds begin to form a rather deep relationship. Nisha is a young executive looking to continue the corporate climb. Yvette is the ‘Chinese Cleaner’ in the office block that Nisha works in. As the two form a deep friendship they realise they may have more to offer each than they first thought. The themes raised in Rice play on the politics of global food production and the reality of it. Grab your tickets HERE for an interesting evening.

SHIT
Probably the more provocative piece, SHIT is a play that looks at class, misogyny and power. Focusing around three girls who simply don’t give a fuck, SHIT delves into the world of girls who spit, who swear and have been left in the underclass. Written by the always raw Patricia Cornelius and directed by Susie Dee, this is not to be missed. Snoop yo’ tickets HERE.
