Sydney in Spring: What’s On

Aug 31, 2017  ·  3 min read

We’ve got that spring in our step thanks to the impending start of no doubt everyone’s favourite season. As we come out of hibernation, that first infusion of floral-scented fresh air, warming sun and bared skin tells us it’s time to get excited about the warmer months to come. Sydney completely lights up at this time of year, so we have rounded up a list of exciting must-attend events.

Sydney Fringe
A celebration of all things art and creativity, the Sydney Fringe Festival is now in its eighth year and going strong. This year’s program sees 300 productions across 50 venues sprawling across the city, offering standout performances by local independent artists, art makers and performers. The Fringe runs the whole month of September, so you won’t miss out on something great. See the full program HERE.

Sydney Underground Film Festival
Tucked away in the creative hub of Marrickville is the annual Sydney Underground Film Festival, an exploration of films spanning taboo topics such as sex, drug binges, conspiracy theories and occult mania. Between September 14-17, SUFF will be showcasing films attaining to the dedicated cinephile on the hunt for non-commercial weird and wonderful independent flicks to fuel their appetites. Titles such as Assholes, The Crazies, Craiglist Allstars and Samurai Ruani are all on the bill – never heard of them? Neither have we, but we are totally going to grab a ticket or two and get enlightened.

Craft Beer Week
We have to wait until October for this one, but boy will it be worth the wait. For a whole week from 20-29 October, Craft Beer Week is Sydney’s biggest celebration of the best cold brews. Dedicated to sharing the city’s vibrant beer culture with locals and visitors alike, Craft Beer Week delivers a world-class celebration of nature’s nectar, with events and activities such as tailored dinners paired with brewskies, tastings and food pairings and a live ‘battle of the brewers’, where four breweries each form a band for a 20-minute set – awesome. Night Noodle Markets
An entire month-long festival dedicated to food and drink – the absolute jewel in the festival circuit’s crown that is Good Food Month. All hail. Our favourite GFM event is the Night Noodle Markets, which sees Hyde Park transformed into an Asian hawker-style street food pop up haven, dishing out noodles, dumplings, barbecued delights and more to hungry punters. Forty of Sydney’s top Asian restaurants will be popping up for the event, so be sure to head along. More details HERE.
