Storyology 2016

Anyone can tell a story. There are an infinite amount of stories to be told, from war to peace, love and happiness, selfie stick deaths and shark culling. Stories are everywhere, the world constantly demands fresh content, and the way a story is told can change how the story is consumed. The good people behind the Walkley Foundation know all about a good story and with a line-up full of big names, Storyology 2016 is looking to be one well told story, better than the one above.

Quick recap for those at the back, The Walkley Foundation is a non-profit organisation that is into harbouring professional and ethical journalism to support excellence within the industry. It’s important to know that, because the Storyology 2016 will be all about real talk, no fluffy stuff, the festival is delving into the challenges that today’s media makers are facing, while juggling motivations and tech innovations.

The line-up of speakers is fierce. It’s a long list of movers and shakers that over the last decade have shaped the media landscape in some way. Starting with Heidi Blake from BuzzFeed UK. Ms Blake was a part of the team that investigated the match fixing scandal at the 2016 AusOpen. She also worked on the leaked FIFA documents that resulted in the Sepp Blatter stepping down from the organisation. Next up is the Gerard Ryle, whose career reads like a story book itself. Gerard is now the director at the International Consortium of Investigative Journalism and most recently worked with the team that published the Panama Papers, shining a light onto the shady world of offshore finance. Lastly, Lina Attalah is the founder and current managing editor of Mada Masr, the Egyptian start up that is maintaining press freedom in the country.
