Shows Not to Miss in May

Sydney is known for being a hub of cultural happenings and May is one month not to be missed if you are into theatre, dance and music. There are some fantastic shows and experiences coming up that with truly satisfy the work/life balance quota.

Our top tips for things to see in May are plenty but will, no doubt, all be ahhhhh-maaazing.

Sydney Dance Company

Explore the depth of human impulse with the world premiere of Rafael Bonachela’s ab [intra], meaning ‘from within’ in Latin. This iconic Sydney dance institution never puts on a show not worth witnessing so make sure you buy tickets.

Sydney Theatre Company

The Australian premiere of The Children has been described as “a brilliant drama with electric undercurrents”. Not to ruin the plot but it deals with some big issues.

Sydney Opera House

Don’t miss the return of Scottish indie royalty, Belle & Sebastian, to Australian soils. This world-renowned ensemble was formed 22 years ago and is still going strong!

Book of Mormon

Hit musical, The Book of Mormon, has finally come to Sydney! It’s one for the ages, so make sure you snap up some highly sought after tickets.

Where: Sydney Lyric Theatre, Pyrmont

Australian Ballet

The Merry Widow channels the dance dens of decadence in Paris, the Ballrooms, and bring a light-hearted take on the narrative of tangled affairs, narrow misses and jealous lovers.

When: 28 April – 19 May

Where: Sydney Opera House

Vivid Sydney

The fabulous finale to the month is Vivid from 25 May – 16 June. A Sydney staple jam-packed with beauty and entertainment, this light festival brings more than just public art installations. The fantastic musical acts, for one, are not to be missed. The likes of Iron & Wine, Cat Power, Dreams, Mazzy Star and Ice Cube will be gracing our shores. Find out more about the music here.
