What’s good at Semi Permanent Sydney

May 16, 2017  ·  2 min read

I hate good taste. It’s the worst thing that can happen to a creative person.

Helmut Newton once said those words.

And if taste is something that’s in a state of constant change, which it arguably is, then it becomes a little difficult to argue with Mr Newton.

Thankfully, to continue the push of change, Semi Permanent is about to take over Carriageworks from May 25 to help us push the boundaries of good taste.

With this year’s theme being ‘Design for Change’, the Semi Perm team have assembled a group of brands, people and ideas that will do just that, while blowing your mind with your own interpretation of where the world’s heading.

The idea of Designing for Change excites us as much as it excites you. When you take the mind on a journey to think about the world in 2047, where do you go?

Where do you live? How do you live? And how has design changed it?

Let’s explore the banging lineup of speakers coming to a Semi perm stage to you v.shortly to help you tackle those big q’s.

Kicking things off and opening up the whole festival will be the cool kids on the youth media block at VICE; with publisher and producer Katherine Keating talking about how VICE create their content to connect to a younger audience and do a damn fine job about it.

Paul Stafford from DesignStudio will be talking about how he and his skilful AF team have rebranded companies like Airbnb, The Premier League and Deliveroo. Three brands that, when you think about have changed their whole design ethos over the last couple of years… for the better.
