QT Melbourne’s #RoomNumberRedo

Aug 19, 2016  ·  3 min read

By Ben Stephens.

Alright, alright, alright, listen up to all the crazy creatives and bedroom artists out there. QT Hotels and Resorts are spreading their wings south to the capital of Victoria. That’s right, QT Melbourne is set to open the doors in September, on what will be a very fine hotel. With all those things you already know and love about QT, the design, the vibe and of course the quirk, QT Melbourne is set to be the hotel opening of the year… #NoBias

Now, we loves to connect with the culture in which we exist and as QT Melbourne is in the beating heart of the capital of the creative it is only fitting to throw open a competition to design room numbers between 1 – 101, aptly titled #RoomNumberRedo. How rad would it be to have your work on show 365 days in the hippest hotel to open in Melbourne. The team are asking for any form of art; painting, song, dance, photography or a piece writing, you name it, we want to see it. Throw it up on Instagram with #roomnumberredo and #qtmelbourne and we’ll be sure to see it. Winners will be invited to the exclusive launch party and a night at QT Melbourne, two things we all really want.

In order to call a fair judging, we have wrangled a team of experts together in order to evaluate all entries. The panel isn’t just anyone, we really assembled The A Team for this, it is with a pleasure I introduce you to them.

First up with have the Sydney-based, multi award winner, amazing typographer Gemma O’Brien. We also have Art Director Fabio Ongarato, who knows the QT brand inside and out. Next is Sarah Tutton, the Senior Curator at the Australian Centre of the Moving Image (ACMI). House DJ and Restauranteur Grant Smillie will be on hand, reminding us what cool is and Elliott Routledge, Sydney-based mural artist rounds out the first half of the judging board. As you can see, it’s no lightweight panel, let me wow you with the other half. Kris Smith, model/presenter, originally from Manchester, will be look over the entries, as well as the very talented photographer Lauren Bath. The founder, director and publisher of chic bible, Boardsheet, Nick Shelton will be sizing up you interpretations as will Liz Sunshine, the brains behind street style blog StreetSmith. To finish up, a close friend of QT, Mr Adam Ferrier, currently the global CSO of Cummins & Partners and regular on the ABC’s Gruen series.

Above are ten absolute champions that have the task to sift through the entries for #RoomNumberRedo in order to complete QT Melbourne before opening day, no small feat, but we’re sure they’ll do just fine.

We look forward to seeing your entries, get creative!
