interview by sophie rennard
intro by ben stephensWith the Sydney DJ scene producing some of the best darn dance jockeys over the years, we are proud to announce our stellar lineup of the best female DJ’s taking over Gilt Lounge this April.
If you’re not familiar, I would like to introduce you to Ms Alice Quiddington or Alice Q as she’s known on the other side of the decks.
Alice, a Sydney-based beat maker has played everywhere that’s good between here and NYC. From Le Bain to Miami’s Winter Music Conference, Alice Q specialises in high-end parties with a flair.
We managed to grab a moment of her time for a quick chat about what’s she’s listening to and where she hangs out in Sydney town.
SR: What are you listening to on repeat right now?
AQ: The Opposite of us – Big ScarySR: What are your top three go-to tracks for a lazy Sunday afternoon session?
I have so many and my favourites literally change week to week; here are three that I’m loving at the moment:Live at Palladium – Phil Weeks
London Headache (Purple Disco Machine Remix) – Anabel Englund
Night Flight (No Regular Play Remix) – Midnight magic
SR: Who are your musical inspirations and why?
AQ: I love Disco and soul music, I play a lot of music from the ‘70s and even earlier – a lot of the house music I play has a disco/soul influence or will sample old disco tracks so that era is definitely a big influence in the kind of music I play.  My biggest inspirations are artists that can combine those two genres really well like Wolf + Lamb, Pillow Talk, Soul Clap.SR: What lured you to the life of a DJ? What are the pros and what are the cons?
AQ: I really just had a passion for house music and loved playing it and hearing it, I never really thought I’d make a living from being a DJ – it kind of just happened; but I guess it was the kind of music I was into that got me into DJing.SR: What are your top three favourite Sydney hangouts?
AQ: Bondi Beach, Icebergs Pool, The Shop
