Three Opera House Must-See Shows in March

The Sydney Opera House always brings the fire when it comes to a good night out. A cheeky ticket to an Opera House gig in your hot little hand and all that comes with it is a splendid feeling.

It includes the customary stop at Opera Bar for a few pre-game beverages. And of course, indulging in a few more rather rushed refreshments inside the great white sails. Hastily sipping and hopefully not spilling to the sound of the front of house calls to politely hurry the hell up. It’s all part of the experience and Jørn Oberg Utzon would be proud.

We’ve looked at the line-up for March and have singled the three performances you should be seeing at the Opera House.

Don Quichotte

The hilariously eccentric tale of Don Quichotte, a whimsical knight doting on the brave days of old. Executed impeccably by Ferruccio Furlanetto and accompanied by French conductor Guillaume Tourniaire and Elena Maximova as the damsel Dulcinée, this version of what is considered the most influential work of literature from the Spanish Golden Age, is very damn entertaining.

Follow “the hero no one needed” as he courageously chases women and battles windmills in one last noble quest for the history books … he hopes.

Don Quichotte is running until 28 March.

Seu Jorge Does David Bowie

Attention all Wes Anderson and David Bowie fans, your time has come. Brazilian pop legend Seu Jorge (who played Pelé dos Santos in cult classic The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou) will be gracing the Opera House stage to perform his toe-tapping folk soundtrack of David Bowie classics in what is a Sydney first.

Seu Jorge will perform 25 March.

Von Otter sings Schubert

Swedish mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter singing the Schubert song repertoire that shot her to fame, that is. This performance also includes Mahler’s unfinished final symphony (he died whilst writing Symphony No.10) that was finished by British musicologist Deryck Cooke.

Despite a confusing description, this performance promises to be a powerful and push-you-back-into-your-seat display of classical music.
