What’s on at The Old Fitz

image by the village bike graphics team

words by ben stephens

In the old world that is the Kings Cross area, people seemed more open and were unapologetically and beautifully themselves. This rawness was what made the Cross, it was a mixture of rough and glamour, bought together for varied reasons, in search of different euphoric states.

You could attribute a quote from the thespian legend that is Sheldon Patinkin to those people of the cross in its golden years:

‘Better to be an asshole than a chickenshit.’

A quote that leaves you with a thought provoking sentiment that makes the heart melt. How could it be better said? It couldn’t.

Coincidently, yet not, this is the mantra that the damn fine production team at The Old Fitz are championing for the 2017 season.

The theatre can be found just a couple of turns outside the Cross, hidden to newcomers.

Midway into one of the biggest seasons for the relatively small venue, there is a distinct excitement in the air about what’s to come.

With a lineup of strong females, here’s what’s on at The Old Fitz this June:

The Village Bike
A tale that looks into the world of Becky. B is pregnant and a little frustrated at her husband who seems to have moved all his interest into How to be a good Dad and other best sellers, while Becky just wants him to notice her fine piece of underwear that she’s rocking. It’s hot, it’s summertime and Beck turns her attention to a haul of pornography that she finds under the bed. Coming in hot from the two sold-out seasons in the UK, this is one NOT TO MISS. Check out the spicy SMH review HERE

SLUT
This little number is back by popular demand after a very successful 2016 season. SLUT toys with sexual empowerment and dangerous sexualisation, a toying that is populated by young women. The production shows an evolution of a Lolita and her girl gang, growing into, owning and being owned. SLUT is a little mirror and shows how society exploits young woman and their sexuality. Quite the piece. Another not to miss.

As with many of the productions that take to the stage at The Old Fitz, they’ll likely sell out, so get amongst the tickets HERE
