The Museum of Contemporary Art: What’s On

Before the summer installation of Pipilotti Rist comes to the Museum Contemporary Art, the curatorial team at Sydney’s premier contemporaneous art haunt have some incredible shows on this October, capped off with an ArtBar that’ll most likely tickle your fancy.

Let us give a tight rundown of what’s on and what not to miss this month at the Museum of Contemporary Art;

MCA Collection: Today Tomorrow Yesterday

A favourite for anyone who has that’s been before, this long-time exhibition pulls on the MCA’s own collection of outstanding art. The title, Today Tomorrow Yesterday plays with the book written by the philosopher, Kahill Gibarn and the line ‘… Yesterday is but to-day’s memory, and to-morrow is to-day’s dream‘. A reflection of sorts, that sits well with an exhibition that continues to grow with new acquisitions as the season changes. If it’s your first time to the MCA or your 15th, this is always a standout and continues the ever-changing story that is contemporary art.

Hilarie Mais

A feeling of gratification is what I personally walked away with after checking out the Mais exhibition. It might be Hilarie Mais’s love and expression of a grid that impacts the viewer, or the use of clean lines, whatever it is, it’s beautiful. The exhibition is a collection of works from the last decade of Mais’s and shows off some of her key works.

Primavera 2017

Save the best for last – this is the 26th edition of annual Primavera celebration of young Australian art and it’s a doozey. Working with eight up and coming artists under the age of 35, Primavera aims to help establish these names as they make their way in the industry. The showing highlights all sorts of mediums from collage, installations, painting, photography and video. The Primavera 2017 artists include Jacobus Capone (WA), Adam John Cullen (VIC), Nicole Foreshew (NSW), Teelah George (WA), Laura Hindmarsh (TAS/UK), Elena Papanikolakis (NSW), Tom Polo (NSW) and Kynan Tan(WA/NSW).
