More Cheese, Please!

Apr 4, 2018  ·  3 min read

Sydney is a known for its amazing food scene and, as there are so many greats to choose from, sometimes the decision-making process is quite overwhelming.

Often it’s best to opt for the easy yet ever delicious cheese and/or charcuterie plate.

Save yourself from the stress and indecision by checking out some of these known and loved go-to cheese haunts or try one of the surprising new additions.

There are heaps of options but our top picks are below. Don’t forget, cheese is one of life’s true pleasures and it’s even better with a glass of wine so don’t hold back!

The Stinking Bishops

Channelling a European cheesemonger vibe, The Stinking Bishops is the place to cheese in the inner-west. Choose your poison in the cheese variety, or many varieties if you are feeling hungry, and all plates come with bread, bickies, quince paste, muscatels and a fig-and-walnut rolada. One word. YUM.

Where: 63-71 Enmore Rd, Newtown

Formaggi Ocello

Formaggi Ocello is a sight to be seen, even if you aren’t in the mood for some cheese indulgence. A shop pretty much entirely dedicated to cheese is one you don’t want to miss. But if you want to mix it up, they also offer olive oils, pasta, cheese accompaniments such as fruits, jam, pastes, and many a trusty tasty cracker. Purchase, or sit and get ready for some of the best cheese you’ve had in a long time. It’s pure cheese heaven, really.

Where: 16/425 Bourke St, Surry Hills

GPO Cheese and Wine Room

Set within the historic sandstone GPO building, GPO Cheese and Wine Room houses an impressive 80-100 kinds of cheese at any one time, as well as 250 Australian and international wines. Choose from many cheese-related dishes including their famous Mac ‘n’ Cheese and multiple fondue options.

Where: Lower Ground Floor, Sydney GPO Building, 1 Martin Place

The Wine Library

This beautiful inner-east wine bar has a menu jam-packed with delicious bar snacks and heartier meals. The cheese choices at The Wine Library are extensive and the matching wine options make it the perfect stop to sit, sip and indulge in cheese (and whatever else takes your fancy – the menu is fantastic!).

Where: 18 Oxford St, Woollahra

If you fancy buying some fantastic cheese for a picnic, to enjoy at home or to take to a friends place we highly recommend:

Fourth Village Providore – Mosman

Salts Meat Cheese – Bondi Junction, Broadway, Circular Quay, Drummoyne

Blackwattle Deli – Pyrmont

Go forth and eat amazing cheese, my friends!
