Barbu

words by ben stephens

★★★★★ “Sexiest, tastiest, and jaw-dropping” – Grumpy Gay Critic

★★★★ “Joyously naughty, laugh-out-loud witty and unpretentiously camp” – The Times

★★★★½  “Pole dancing lumberjacks…refreshingly ridiculous” – The Upside

Enter the strange world of Barbu by Cirque Alfonse.

It’s weird and we here at QTLife can’t get enough of it.

Gone are the days of the circus where the elephants roamed and the lions tried really hard to not maul the face of the ringleader as he whipped them around the tent.

Barbu is currently taking over The Studio at the Sydney Opera House and from the reviews alone; this is a show not to be missed.

From the acclaimed Canadian Cirque House, Alfonse, this little outing plays with the early 19th century beginnings of the circus industry. Where the audience were left with their jaws on the ground in amazement and the political correctness wasn’t adhered to.

Using audio, visual and physical elements the show is pure organised mayhem backed with a musical offering that’ll have you wanting to dance.

Take this sweet promo video for example:

Wow. Jaw on the ground kind of stuff.

The Barbu team must leave the Opera House on March 4, so you have limited time to catch the show. Pick your jaw up and grab your tickets HERE.

Oh, there is nudity and other things that may offend… If that kind of things make you feel weird inside, probably go and see if you can change your mindset.
