The Beauty of a Big Red at Bazaar

Sunday Roast is quickly becoming a Sunday ritual in QT, especially as nights are getting colder and the snow is starting to fall. Just as you don’t know what you’re getting when you rock up to Bazaar on any given night, the same is for the Big Red list. Always delicious and changing often, here’s a taste of the dreamy drops on offer.

Craggy Range Syrah 2013

Hailing from East Coast Wine country, all Craggy Range wines come from carefully selected single vineyard sites, planted with the grape variety that best suits the Hawke’s Bay’s climate, soil and geography. Drink history with this drop, as the vines originate from a Heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand around 150 years ago. Expect ripe fruit and spice with elegant and restrained tannins.

Grant Burge Holy Trinity GSM 2012

The Holy Trinity is usually referred to in a religious sense, and we frequent the church of red wine, almost daily. In this case, our holy trinity is GSM – Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvdre. The 2012 Holy Trinity is a richly flavoured and elegantly structured GSM that continues the long and lauded heritage for this traditional blend in the Barossa Valley. The palate is rich and juicy with vibrant flavours of fresh plums and berries, chai tea and fruitcake. Can you handle it? We definitely think you can.

Boneline Iridium Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot 2014

This super-stylish, complex Bordeaux blend is of Cabernet, Cabernet Franc and Merlot and is French-styled, reminding one of a perfumed, dusty-mineral Cabernet Franc from the Loire. Like a classic Tiffany necklace, it’s charming but never overbearing. This Boneline delight comes from some of the oldest Cab vines in the country, full of ripe cassis and berry fruits with a leafy and, being Waipara, a mineral turn about it.

William Murdoch Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc 2010

This beaut is aged for 19 months in French oak (50% new) and this wine can be enjoyed now or cellared carefully for the next 10 years (but we’re not that patient). On the nose, hints of berry, jalapeno and mint dance around, however darker flavours of blackcurrant, chocolate and cassis linger on the palate with a long, sustained finish.

See you every Sunday until Spring!
