Melbourne Gets Arty

Melbourne Art Fair is back and we’re excited!

If you didn’t already know the flagship event of Melbourne Art Week, during which time more than 50 cultural organisations, institutions, art spaces, satellite fairs and galleries come together to survey the state of contemporary art in Australia and abroad, is undoubtedly the Melbourne Art Fair.

Melbourne Art Fair returns this week (2-5 August) showcasing some of the best contemporary art from Australia, New Zealand and the region, curated from 40 leading galleries. MAF expects to attract more than 20,000 art seekers, being one of the most popular dates on the Melbourne calendar.

Translation: You don’t want to miss this.

This year’s Melbourne Art Fair is taking place at Vault Hall and Riding Hall alongside ACCA (Australian Centre for Contemporary Art) in the Southbank Arts Precinct. There is a plethora of exhibition options to choose from this year, and you can view the program here to help you choose.

Our pick of the week?

We’re most excited about the debut of TIME, a site specific video sector curated by Hannah Mathews and Rachel Ciesla unveiling a selection of new and recent works by Michaele Gleave, Jess Johnson, Simon Ward and Angela Tiatia.

TIME speaks to the power of the now and is presented across four sites including Melbourne Art Fair, Buxton Contemporary, Fed Square and our very own – QT Melbourne. The work takes the form of a highly ambient field of colour and sound presented for an intimate audience via QT Melbourne’s in-house entertainment system.

In fact, QT Melbourne is the official Hotel and dining destination for the fair – we thought the partnership was the perfect fit given our cultural and creative outlooks! With our large emphasis on art and design and pivotal role in the promotion and nurturing of artistic endeavors both locally and abroad, we couldn’t be more excited about the partnership.

If you’re lucky enough to be staying at QT Melbourne this week, you’ll be able to view the artwork from the comfort of your very own room. Otherwise, you’ll have to pop into our hotel lobby, Cake Shop or Bar for a special viewing anytime from 2 – 5th August.

As two special destinations within Melbourne’s sophisticated cultural mix, the partnership will inspire, cultivate and entertain.
