The Great Aussie Brunch All Star Yum-Cha at QT Melbourne

Posted on: 05 June 2017

Melbourne’s newest designer hotel QT Melbourne partnered with The World’s 50 Best Restaurants to host the ultimate Asian inspired recovery brunch: All Star Yum Cha on Thursday 6 April 2017 to wrap up the culinary Olympics which descended onto Australia’s acclaimed food and wine capital this week.

The recovery brunch fell off the back of a week-long celebration of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants; a gathering of the world’s top chefs, restaurateurs, food media, influencers and gourmets. As the official hotel partner to the event, QT Melbourne had the honour of hosting some of the biggest names in global gastronomy to provide a home away from home experience during the highly anticipated 2017 event schedule.

Thursday morning’s event on the Rooftop at QT overlooking Melbourne’s city skyline saw winners Daniel Humm and Will Guidara in attendance, along with Michelin-star chefs Massimo Bottura, Eric Ripert and Dominique Crenn. Local talent included Peter Gilmore, Ben Shewry and Dan Hunter. The all-star chef line-up didn’t stop there with popular dishes plated up by esteemed chefs including:

  • ArChan Chan & Andrew McConnell from Ricky & Pinky
  • Anthony Lui from Flower Drum
  • David Thompson from Long Chim
  • Neil Perry from Spice Temple
  • Thi Le from Anchovy
  • Victor Liong from Lee Ho Fook

With a strong focus on traditional yum cha, Spice Temple’s mackerel and ginger pot stickers along with Ricky & Pinky’s mud crab, pork and saltbush dumpling in double boiled soup were just a few of many crowd-pleasing dishes on offer. QT’s very own Pascale Bar & Grill’s Pandan lamington and crispy sesame dumplings with pineapple and custard cream were also favourites, along with the Ghost of Mary cocktail (Jalapeño-infused vodka, tomato consommé, crispy pancetta).

Tourism Australia Managing Director John O’Sullivan said Australia’s hosting of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2017 provides another opportunity to draw attention to the country’s world-class tourism offering as part of the most prestigious global gathering of food and wine luminaries.

QT Melbourne were thrilled to host the 2017 alumni of the World’s 50 Best for another great celebration of local and international visionaries across the culinary landscape.
