MoMA at NGV

May 15, 2018  ·  2 min read

The highly respected and adored MoMa of New York City is making an appearance in Melbourne in the best kind of way so it’s time to get excited!

In conjunction with the hard work and dedication of the team at the National Gallery of Victoria, some iconic masterpieces from the famed Museum of Modern Art in NYC are visiting our Aussie isle.

MoMA at NGV: 130 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art is hitting the city with a bucket load of absolute masterpieces. Think about this … roughly 200 key works will be showcased showing the “development of art and design from late-nineteenth-century urban and industrial transformation, through to the digital and global present.”

MoMA is home to artworks by greats such as Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Jackson Pollock and Frida Kahlo, as well as some more modern artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Huang Yong Ping, and Camille Henrot. That being said, we are bound to be in for an awe-inspiring experience at the exhibition at the NGV.

This show is internationally exclusive to Melbourne and has been in the works for more than two years so it’s going to be a knockout, for sure. Not that we would ever doubt that. There’s also a whole bunch of other cool things happening in relation to the exhibition such as talks, tours and events so check out the happenings here.

Tony Ellwood, the NGV director says, “We are delighted to be working with MoMA to bring such an extraordinary and diverse selection of works to Melbourne.”

And so are we! We are super excited and taking bets on just which art pieces we will get to see … Will it be Cubist or Futurist? Picasso or Pollock? The suspense is killing us (in a good way)!

Be there or be square. Simply put. ENJOY!

When: 9 June – 7 October

Where: National Gallery of Victoria, Southbank
