Put your hand on your heart, proud Gold Coasters! Local gal and entrepreneur Carly Snodgrass has just launched The Undercurrent – a collection of tee’s designed by local artists to flaunt our beautiful city.
Nostalgic 70’s styling with a modern edge and uber-cool cuts; the first collection of The Undercurrent t-shirts and singlets showcase the true beach culture vibe of Surfers Paradise, Burleigh Heads, Coolangatta, Mermaid Beach and Currumbin.
‘I am always bringing back artwork when I travel as I love to have a keepsake that was locally made in the destinations I visit’, Carly says.
“I also come home with t-shirts as they are easy to pack. It got me thinking…what are visitors of the Gold Coast taking home with them? I wanted to create something that not only showcases the beaches, nightlife and theme parks but gives visitors an insight into the cultural diversity of the Coast and what it’s like to be a local”.
And et voilà! The Undercurrent was born.
Carly teamed up with five local artists to each design a t-shirt representative of a Gold Coast suburb:
- Claudio Kirac –Mermaid Beach ()
- Sarah Beetson – Surfers Paradise
- Byron Coathup – Coolangatta
- Eric Koo – Burleigh Heads
- Kiel Tillman – Currumbin
Hand screen-printed in Burleigh by Monstar Screenprinting, The Undercurrent t-shirts are all priced at $39 each with a $2 kickback to Surf Life Saving Queensland for every item sold.
We have a feeling these babies will be snapped up by tourists and locals alike and can’t wait to see the next instalment!
