Top Shelf Tipples

Just when you think you’ve seen it all…90’s boy band and teen heartthrobs, Hanson, launch their very own beer! And better still, call it Mmmhops.

Best known for their 1997 hit song “MMMBop“, the Oklahoma trio are now celebrating their 21st anniversary together (that’ll make you feel old) – along with their sixth studio album, Anthem and of course, their new brew.

So it got us thinking – are celebrity drinks the new perfume?

Here’s our top three celebrity tipples from here in Australia:

Balter Beer
First and foremost, Balter. A Gold Coast born, craft beer initiative backed by Aussie surfers Mick Fanning, Bede Durbridge, Josh Kerr and Joel Parkinson and of course brewed under the watchful eye of Scott Hargrave. Balter’s Currumbin Waters brewery and 12-tap tasting room has become a local institution – testament not only to the star-studded board of investors but also to the art of true craft-beermanship!

Sesión Tequila
According to Aussie model couple Jennifer Hawkins and Jake Wall, “tequila is the new black”. Now that’s something we can get behind!
Sesión is made from 100 per cent blue agave, and it’s a small-batch artisanal spirit, which makes it smoother on the palate. With Sesión, the couple hopes to introduce drinkers to the nuances of tequila, rather than the old association of shots with salt and lime.
“There’s another side to tequila that’s more cultured, refined and flavourful,” says Wall. “Here, we try a slew of different styles, starting with blanco, an unaged tequila that’s ideal for mixing. Amber-hued reposado, which is rested in Bourbon barrels for six months, is excellent straight up or mixed. And bronze-tinted añejo, aged for 12 to 18 months, deserves to be savoured”.

Pour Les Amour
Dan Single (previously co-founder of the cult Aussie streetwear brand Ksubi) and his model girlfriend Bambi Northwood-Blyth are the proud owners of Pour Les Amour – a boutique Rosé collection created in collaboration with South Australia’s renowned Bird in Hand Winery. The couple launched their new drop in style back in 2014 with an intimate dinner held at Dan and Bambi’s New York loft, catered by The Fat Radish -the infamous restaurant in the Lower East side.
