Top 10 ‘To-Dos’ in 2017

words by larissa klerck

Out with the old and in with the new! As 2017 approaches and you reflect on another year past, it’s time to set some new goals and start discovering how you can broaden your horizons in the new year.

We’ve all said more than once “I’d love to try that one day” and 2017 is the year to make that one day happen. Here are our top 10 to-dos for the new year (in no specific order):

Nude Yoga
You’ve heard about, you’ve thought about (and giggled), now it’s time to let loose and give it a good crack, no pun intended. Widely popular among other Australian cities such as Perth and Melbourne, naked yoga is the newest health and relaxation experience set to liberate people across the Gold Coast in 2017. Certainly not for the faint-hearted, but it can be an empowering exercise for people willing enough to try it.

Jetpack Adventures
If you’ve ever seen someone powering out of the ocean wearing what looks like a high-tech superhero device, chances are it was a jetpacker. What is it, you ask? An Iron Man-esque backpack unit that lifts you above the water and allows you to ‘fly’, AKA the coolest new water activity in Australia! If you love the water and you’re up for an adventure, Jetpacking has your name written all over it.

Savoury Desserts
Before screwing your nose up, remember our old mate Salted Caramel? Genius. Savoury desserts are becoming more and more popular worldwide, and 2017 is your time to give it a go my friend. From chilli chocolate to beetroot cakes and roast potato ice-creams, savoury desserts are more common than you think. QT Gold Coast is home to a few novelty savoury treats like the tomato and basil macaron featured in our Qtea High Tea and the Belgian chocolate cigar filled with Bourbon semifreddo, candied bacon and lemon ash *drool* as part of the Man Tea.

Go to a Music Festival
The Gold Coast and surrounding areas used to be chock-full with huge music festivals like Big Day Out, Summerfield Days and Good Vibrations (RIP), now we’re only limited to a few. Thankfully though, the festivals we do have nearby are mint! If you had Splendour or Falls fomo like me this past year, why not get amongst it in 2017. It’s not cheap by the time you buy outfits, food, drinks and the like, but you have plenty of time to start saving!

Travel Locally
Since you’ll be Nude Yoga-ing, Jetpacking and attending Music Festivals all year, you may not have enough dosh for an overseas trip. Our proposal? Travel locally! We are so blessed to live in this part of Australia, surrounded by stunning beaches, hinterlands, cute little towns and camping spots. Heck, you don’t even have to take time off work, a weekend getaway will always suffice!

iFLY Indoor Skydiving
Yaaaaas! You have to try this, you just have to. Located in the heart of Surfers Paradise, iFLY features a 12 foot indoor skydiving tunnel which provides human flight ancillary services to make it feel like you are actually flying from a plane. This is the perfect activity for a first date, team building or just a weekend venture.

Bombay Sapphire Gin Twist Carafes
Did I have you at Gin? Well just you wait, it gets better. Bombay Sapphire have invented a new cocktail vessel that allows you to infuse your gin and tonic with a selection of fresh herbs and fruits. The crisp taste of the beloved gin and tonic just got a whole lot better. Available at QT Gold Coast’s Calypso Sundays, every Sunday from 12:00pm outside on the terrace.

Learn a Language
How cool would it be to just randomly break out in Spanish convo one day? Super sexy. Learning a language is hard, but certainly not as hard as it would’ve been in the olden days. Back then, there was no Internet, iBooks or Apps. Now, we could practically learn a new language through snapchat (probably not, but you get what I’m saying). If this is something you’ve always wanted to do, why not make a start on it in the New Year?

Go to a Local Brewery
The Gold Coast never used to have beer breweries, well not trendy ones anyway, but not we have them in every suburb! Attending a local brewery not only helps support local business but it’s also a super fun and vibey thing to do with a group of friends. Plus, craft beer is delightful!

Float
Last but not least, you should definitely give floating a try in 2017. Floating allows your physical body to relieve you of your 5 senses, free your body from your mind and let your brain go to sleep. Sounds amazing right? Floating has proved to have various health benefits including pain relief, stress prevention and increased endurance. If you haven’t heard of it, I won’t give too much away, but if 2016 had some rough patches, perhaps 2017 will be a little more desirable with a float here and there.
