Surf Life Saving Championships

As you make your way down to any beach in the sunny state of Queensland during the summer period, you’ll see heroes everywhere. Made up of ordinary men and women, wearing special costumes. The yellow and the red colours that make up their outfits are almost like a bat signal, but it works for the public, letting you know that your life is in good hands.

They are the men and women of Surf Life Saving Queensland and they are there to make sure your day at the beach doesn’t end in injury or worse. These heroes, neigh superheroes train all year round to make sure you’re safe. Working in teams they are able to perform rescues, resuscitations and really cool tricks in inflatable rescue boats… all rather impressive. Coming from all walks of the lifesavers work together making sure that everyone enjoys the ocean.

When I was younger, I remember being caught in a rip. I kept trying to swim against it like the kook I was and before I knew it, I was out beyond the break, no board and becoming rather tired. Throwing my hand up at that point wasn’t needed as the clubbies were already on their way out to get me.

It’s those moments that stick with you. Without them, you wouldn’t have read that story… for I may be living in New Zealand as that’s where I would’ve been swept to. Crazy to think huh?

This March, Surf Life Saving clubs across the state will converge on the Gold Coast for the annual Queensland Surf Life Saving Championships, an event not to be missed. With over 2000+ competitors running across sand and sea to be crowned the best in the state. It’s an exhibition of the best bodies and strongest minds fighting it out for that winning glory.

Highly recommend viewing all the action from the shoreline while cheering on your favourite beach.

We’ll be loudly cheering for the Surfers Paradise team to bring home the bacon. Only a tad bias 😉

Queensland Surf Life Saving Championships are on from March 10 – 12 at North Kirra SLSC.
