Style Guide: Diner en Blanc

Aug 10, 2017  ·  2 min read

It’s the hottest ticket in town and now fully sold out – the Gold Coast’s very first Le Diner en Blanc this September on Saturday 9th.

From global white-on-white picnic phenomenon to highly sought-after dining “secret” Le Dîner en Blanc started back in 1988 when Frenchman François Pasquier invited a group of friends to an elegant outdoor dinner at Bois de Boulogne, asking them to dress in white so they could find each other.

Well, this François chap must have thrown quite the soiree because now the event spans over 70 cities across the globe!

We sat down with The Stylist Trade’s Laura Lees for her hot tips on dressing for the occasion:

“While the dress code seems simple, there’s an art to wearing white”, says Gold Coast stylist Laura Lees.

  • The dress code for Le Dîner en Blanc is strictly white-on-white with the only exception of metallic jewellery. So experiment with accessories – head pieces, big statement earrings and luxe boho necklaces.
  • Linen is a classic and easy go-to for events like this – paired with pearls you’re sure to look effortlessly stylish.
  • To stand out in a sea of white attire, try white textured clothing like lace, pleats and unusual fabrics.
  • And don’t forget that nights in September can still be a little chilly, so a faux fur jacket can complete your look or a wrap flowing scarf.
  • At the end of the day, you want to be comfortable! There will be some walking involved (not to mention BYO chairs, tables and decorations).

My picks for fashion labels that have some killer white pieces at the moment include:

Maurie and Eve

Bec & Bridge
