The mercury is rising; it’s hot, it’s balmy. A swim or shower really is the only respite from the blanket of heat and humidity.
Being the busiest time of year with Christmas, New Year’s and a whole bunch of tourists, it’s hard to find an outdoor spot to cool off that doesn’t have a tonne of other people attempting the same thing.
We’ll share our favourite Gold Coast swimming spots sans people but shhhhh don’t tell.
Cronan Creek Falls
A picturesque and leisurely 13km return walk will leave you satisfied. Near the end of Cronan Creek Track, you will find these refreshing falls that will see you rejoicing once you arrive. Jump in and revel in nature, as crystal clear, clean waters never disappoint.
Snapper Rocks
Rainbow Bay brings the colour. This famous surf break is actually quite peaceful with a noticeable lack of swimmers. Make the most of a relatively quiet beach, as they are quite hard to come by, especially in this area. Few and far between, as they say.
Currumbin Rock Pools
Only 15 minutes from ‘civilisation’ this swimming hole brings it in spades. The idyllic, cool creek bed is refreshing while also being relaxing. There may be a few more people here than other places, due to the super close proximity to the busy centre, but it’s still not touristy or overrun.
Froggies Beach
This hidden gem is located towards the south end of the coast near Danger Point. Close to Snapper Rocks, you can tick the two off your bucket list in one day. The green frog painted on the rock will let you know that you have reached your destination. Very sheltered from the often strong ocean winds, you’ll arrive at Froggies and quite easily loose a day in what seems like only moments. Sit back, relax and get some swimming/reading/eating/drinking or socialising done. Insider tip: This is the perfect place for a picnic.
