Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Wrap

Mar 20, 2017  ·  2 min read

In a word, magic.

It was one of those dream events where every you want to see shred, took it to the next level and killed it!

Starting with two days of rubbish, small little 1-2 ft waves, the weekend came by and we were looking at solid 5-6ft swells with a nice offshore breeze just grooming that Snapper swell.

(Sounds rad, but this was mixed with torrential downpours and some rather challenging swell periods.)

The girls haven been another level of competition in recent years and 2017 is nothing short of jaw-dropping stuff. Sally Fitz is hungry for that win, but so is everyone else on tour. Carissa Moore, Tyler Wright and Lakey Peterson, were sadly/excitingly no match for Coolangatta local, Ms Steph Gilmore who attacked the lip like no one else, men included. YEAH STEPH!

What a wild week! THANK YOU ❤ @wsl @roxy @ryanheywood #RoxyPro

Going into the men’s competition, my fantasy league had John John Florence and Matt Wilko as my top two picks.

Though with Owen Wright making a return to the tour after spending a year rehabilitating after a horrific wipeout at Pipeline, hindsight shows that maybe it was always his to win.

From the first round win to sticking it to Mick Fanning and surfing against his best mate, Matt Wilko; Owen wasn’t going to be stopped until he took out the first win of the year and laid claim to the number one spot. CONGRATS OWEN!

Before the season began, we asked @owright what he's most looking forward to this year…

From here the tour goes to Margaret River and then Bells Beach for the Easter Weekend… If you want to follow the tour, check it out HERE

If, after reviewing the footage from the Quiky/Roxy Pro you feel the need to head straight to the Gold Coast and see if you too can grab a little time behind the green screen at Snapper, may I recommend teaming you visit with a stay at QT Gold Coast? With dream-like beds, culinary delights and enough room to store your boards, you’ll be right at home.
