Five Awesome Markets on the Gold Coast

Brrr, it’s cold outside, and the beach is becoming less tempting as temperatures drop here on the Gold Coast! Are you looking for something different to do on the weekend? Do you and your pals need a new hangout spot? Or perhaps you just need an excuse to avoid getting sloshed with your friends on Friday night thus resulting in a seedy hangover. Thankfully, the GC has an array of different markets and there’s bound to be one near you.

Here’s a list of our faves:

The Village Markets (TVM)
First and Third Sunday of every month 8am-1pm
I’ll be honest with you – I steer clear of these markets. Not because they’re not enjoyable but because it’s one of those places where you Just. Want. Everything. And my wallet simply wouldn’t cope with such a spree. BUT if you’re self-control is any better than mine, I’m sure you will love it here. These markets have a brilliant range of fresh flowers, plants, handmade crafts and clothing, jewellery, art, bespoke furniture, home ware and other unique bits and bobs. The Village Markets are renowned for supporting local businesses so you’ll be the first to see new brands popping up and meet some cool locals as well.

Bundall Farmer’s Markets (Gold Coast Arts Centre)
Every Sunday 7am-12pm
You could literally spend the whole 5 hours at this place and not get bored… there is so much to see and do! Get your fresh fruit and veggie shopping out of the way and then visit one of the many delicious food stalls on offer. From speciality coffee shops to baked goods to New York style grilled chesses, there ought to be something for everyone in the family. But the fun doesn’t end there, there’s even live music alongside the lake – perfect for a little picnic or an area for the kids to play. Hot tip: If you have a diffuser at home or use natural oils for health reasons, there’s a little doTERRA stall located on the lake side where you can stock up on some beautiful essential oils as well.

Gold Coast Organic Markets
Every Sunday 6am-11:30am
This is one of my faves. With the beautiful suburb of Miami as the backdrop and the beach not too far away, these markets make for a perfect Gold Coast morning. The produce here is all certified organic, so it’s slightly pricier than your usual market but the quality and taste of the produce is second to none. There are a few food stalls here including an omelette station, bakery, coffee shop and sushi spot so it’s a great place to catch up with friends, even if you aren’t doing your weekly grocery shop. Hot tip: Remember to take your own tote bags as there’s definitely no plastic found here.

Carrara Markets
Every Saturday and Sunday 7am-3pm
Good ole’ Carrara Markets. You can’t go wrong really – it’s a one-stop shop. There are fruit and vegetables, meats, delis, bakeries, clothes shops, furniture shops, souvenirs, costumes and who could forget the Tasmanian scallop pies? My favourite part about these markets though is Paul’s Plants where you can get indoor and outdoor plants, succulents, cacti and fresh flowers #crazyplantlady.

Miami Marketta
Every Wednesday 5pm-9pm, Friday 5pm-10pm and Saturday 4pm-10pm
If night-time markets are more your thing and you dig foodie vibes, Miami Marketta would be better suited to you. There are food stalls a plenty and a permanent bar where you can get craft beers, signature cocktails or wine. I think a lot of people would agree that the dessert market is out-of-this-world amazing! I’m talking waffles, donuts, cronuts, gelato, ice-cream sandwiches – the lot. Marketta is also known for its live music scene and supporting local acts. Amy Shark and Vera Blue and set to hit the stage at Marketta in the next couple of months… excited much!
