Live Music On The Gold Coast

Jul 13, 2017  ·  2 min read

words by kobi facto

What is it with Gold Coasters and “winter”? It’s a delightful 22 degrees outside (admittedly a little cooler in the evenings) and yet, some of us go into hibernation. There’s live music to be heard.

It’s time to disconnect from Netflix.

Swap your jim-jams and Tim Tams for torn jeans and stiff drinks – it’s time to get stuck into the Gold Coast’s pumping live music scene… because it never sleeps.

We look at some of the gigs on the Gold Coast to hit during winter.

City Over Sand

Catch Queensland’s very own City Over Sand performing live at NightQuarters Paddock. Best known for their homegrown indie pop, the guys will be dishing out good vibes from 4 pm.
City Over Sand play July 14 at the NightQuarter.

Lloyd Spiegel

Australian Blues master and acoustic guitar extraordinaire, Lloyd Spiegel, has just released his ninth album, ‘This Time Tomorrow’, and is soon to embark on an extensive East Coast tour.
Lloyd Spiegel plays July 22 at Currumbin Sound Lounge.

The Hanlon Brothers

Catch the funky sounds of The Hanlon Brothers each and every Thursday night at Stingray. One of the Gold Coast’s most loved bands, The Hanlon Brothers combine elements of Hip Hop, Jazz, Reggae, Soul and Improvisation – providing the perfect backdrop for a great night out in Surfers Paradise. Now with a three-month residency Stingray Lounge, Thursday nights have never looked so damn fine. Book a group of 5 or more guests and receive a bottle of Charles Pelletier sparkling wine – compliments of Stingray!
The Hanlon Brothers play August 3 at Stingray Lounge.

Fairchild

Gold Coast six-piece band, Fairchild, have just returned home from a two-year stint in the UK to release their debut album “So Long and Thank you”.
Unhindered by genre, the band’s sound developed by working both individually and in small groups, at times swapping instruments, sharing half-baked riffs and beats and experimenting with sound. They soon noticed parallels between each other’s groove and the Fairchild sound was born.
Fairchild plays August 4 at Elsewhere.
