Lights, Camera, Film Festival

The Gold Coast has a colourful heritage of filmmaking. Dating back to the late 1980’s, the ‘GC’ has proved to be a spectacular muse for international filmmakers.

Most recently the Coast has attracted the likes of Johhny Depp and Amber Heard (now that was a scandal)! Not to mention our favourite Aussie hunk, Chris Hemsworth for the latest instalment of Thor.

The filmmaking industry on the Gold Coast has now reached blockbuster status, providing a multi-million dollar boost for the region.

It’s with great excitement that QT Gold Coast is once again a proud sponsor of the Gold Coast Film Festival (GCFF), 19 March – 30 April 2017.

The festival, which was established in 2002, celebrates and promotes all aspects of film and filmmaking.

From internationally acclaimed dramas, comedies and genre films, locally made indie gems and family features, the GCFF offers a culturally diverse, interactive and engaging program of film, events and special guests.

A highlight of the festival is the third annual Women in Film Luncheon which seeks to recognise the contribution and achievement of women in film and television in Australia.

Set at Bazaar Restaurant, guests are invited to get up-close and personal with one of Australia’s most successful film producers and advocates for women in the industry, Sue Maslin.

Most recently recognised for her award-winning film The Dressmaker, starring Kate Winslet, Maslin took the movie to the number 1 spot at the Australian and New Zealand box offices which also became the second highest grossing Australian film of 2015.

It wouldn't be #openingnight without popcorn. Welcome to the 2016 #gcfilmfest. #creativegold #visitgoldcoast #thisisqueensland
