Hotelling

Oct 23, 2016  ·  2 min read

From November 4 – 5, the Gold Coast will stage an ambitious and bold new cultural event that is set to add a new dimension to the city’s holiday experience.

Hotelling will see travellers, experience seekers and local culture vultures immersed in 48 hours of unpredictable art and performance, crisscrossing the corridors, courtyards, cocktail bars and clandestine corners of QT Gold Coast.

This event will feature flirtatious, fly-on-the-wall interactions where visiting artists and the city’s best dancers, theatre-makers, musicians and media artists will be embedded in hotel life, shape-shifting from the concierge to the couple next-door, the celebrity rock-star, the elevator valet, your swimming-pool partner and the hot date you wished you’d always had. There’s no telling who you’ll meet when Hotelling.

Curated by one of Australia’s creative leaders, the award-winning inter/national David Pledger, in collaboration with Bleached Arts, the team behind Bleach* Festival, Hotelling is set to add an alluring new layer to the Gold Coast’s cultural calendar.

According to Pledger, “QT Gold Coast is a high-functioning playground. Its daily life and architecture is performance-ready. The opportunities to embed artists and art-making that respond to this playfulness and sensuality are irresistible. From the 22nd floor to the tennis courts, it will be a down-the-rabbit-hole rollercoaster of an artistic ride.”

A cultural tourism initiative of the City of Gold Coast, Hotelling is set to blur the lines between where hospitality ends and art begins according to Bleached Arts’ Artistic Director Louise Bezzina.

Hotelling has the potential to create a new space for artists and audiences to play, an environment that instantly frees one’s inhibitions, invites curiosity and evokes an amplified sense of escape as travel and art experiences collide. Hotels are such a defining icon in our city’s identity, so it is exciting to see them become a new space to explore contemporary cultural experiences,’’ Bezzina said.

Hotelling is a cultural tourism initiative of City of Gold Coast, presented by Bleached Arts and QT Gold Coast.
