Gold Coast Foodie Tours

The Gold Coast is quickly becoming one of Australia’s most exciting and diverse foodie scenes. It’s no wonder Gold Coast foodie tours are now a thing.

The GC is a place where night bites, hatted restaurants, street-eats and breweries are served alfresco; a place where five-star feasting means dusting the sand from your feet; where surfers swap their boards for a latte at sun-up and little ones break from beachside frolics to feast on epic spreads of fish and chips.

Dining venues and drinking holes are opening in record numbers all over the glitter strip and there’s no better way to squeeze in all the highlights than with a carefully curated Gold Coast Food and Wine Tour with owner and Director, Karen Inglis-Turner.

From Burleigh’s perennially popular rooftop bars to communal eateries in Palmy, fine dining at Broadbeach to reinvented venues in Surfers such as the new innovative izakaya style dining at Yamagen, there is a renaissance stirring up the Gold Coast culinary scene.

We sit down with the Queen of Foodies Karen Inglis-Turner:

Three words that best describe you?

Foodie, Fun and Social

How did you become a foodie – where has your passion for Gold Coast Food and Wine tours come from?

Spending time travelling overseas, discovering new cultures and food. On one of my last vacations I experienced a food tour and thought “this is fun” then came back to the Gold Coast and created my first Food and Wine Tour. We now have four tours available: Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise, Burleigh Heads and a Progressive Dinner Tour on the G-Link.

What’s your favourite food when dining out:
KI: Fresh, healthy and tasty. It’s all about the quality and combinations of the ingredients. I particularly like good Japanese food.

Your tipple of choice?

KI:  That’s a hard one! I usually go with what works with what I’m eating….Sake, Rose or a good Shiraz. I also enjoy Gin & Tonic using botanical Gin from Northern NSW.

Your fave new Gold Coast restaurant or bar and why?

The Gold Coast has some fabulous restaurants and bars and more and more are popping up nearly every week. Etsu, Hellenika and Rick Shores never disappoint.

A Gold Coast restaurant or bar that’s been around for ages that we should visit again and why?

That’s an easy one… it has to be Yamagen at the QT Gold Coast. I remember dining at Yamagen many years ago and thought it was great but after recently experiencing it again after a multimillion dollar refurb, I was blown away. The food, service and Sake is fabulous!

The next food trend to look out for?

Yakitori…..Japanese skewered chicken and meat

Your most memorable vacay?

Japan….Love the food, culture and people. So much to see and do when you are a foodie like me!

Who do you love following on Instagram and why?
@laurenpbath for fantastic shots of Australia, @breathingtravel for international travel,  @goldcoastfoodie for local food and @chefgrantparry for delicious local restaurant food.

What’s on your Christmas wish List?
Health, wealth and happiness for all my family and friends.
