Gold Coast Film Festival

Apr 19, 2018  ·  2 min read

Can you hear that in the air? It’s the sound of greatness mixed with people rushing to the Gold Coast for the Gold Coast Film Festival!

Since its opening in 2002, the Gold Coast Film Festival has brought a spark to the glittering GC events calendar with a massive 15,000 sci-fi, international, comedy, romance film fans visiting to experience the best of the Australian and International film reels.

This year we will see many blockbusters hit our shiny cinemas in partnership with Event Cinemas. We have a few must see’s, in full red carpet glam, of course.

BREATH – Gala Premiere

With a red carpet arrival at 6.30pm for a 7pm film start on the 19th of April, Event Cinemas Pacific Fair will roll out the red carpet for the Australian Premiere of Breath. Set at the Western Australian beaches in the 1970’s, Breath is the story of two young surfer lads who find a passion for surfing after seeing an older pro surfer and his challenges.

Based on the novel by Tim Winton, and with stars like Simon Baker behind the director’s chair and on the screen in this lyrical coming-of-age story, this is a film you don’t want to miss.

SIPFest

Known more commonly as the Shorts in Paradise Festival, SIPFest comes to the golden sandy beaches of Surfers Paradise and sees it transformed into an outdoor cinema experience.

With eight major categories such as Best Film, Best Film by a Gold Coast Resident, Best Actor and more, the goods produced is more than just a competition, it’s a celebration of Australian shorts with a nice $8k in prizes up for grabs.

From Thrillers to Drama, Comedy to a mix of a bit of everything in one, SIPFest will showcase on the 22nd of April from 7pm under the stars and the 30th of April for the London Shorts Film Festival.

Our tip, bring a blanket in case it gets a little chilly.
