Family Fun at the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is clearly one of those dream holiday destinations that you just can’t wait to go back to. It’s also the perfect spot for a family break because there’s just so much to do with the younger folk (that the adults will also enjoy, mind you!).

Here are some of our tips for activities in and around the Gold Coast that are suitable for the whole crew and that you definitely must give a go!

Burleigh Heads National Park

This National Park offers a superb mix of rocky beach shores and rainforest, not to mention the chance to see whales during Winter and Spring. The wildlife is abundant as are the surprises around each corner such as mangroves, creeks and grasslands.

Stop off at Tallebudgera Creek to take a dip and wander through the natural bush beauty searching for sea eagles, birdwing butterflies, brush turkeys and water dragons. Don’t miss the crystal clear waters of Echo Beach, which is also the perfect spot for a picnic.

Drive from QT Gold Coast: 30 minutes

Springbook National Park

Located in the Gold Coast hinterland, Springbook National Park is a Worldm Heritage-listed area with many highlights for the family including the breathtaking Natural Bridge and the beautiful neighbouring glow worm caves.

The Natural Bridge is given its name due to the formation of the rock due to the waterfall flowing over the basalt cave. You can access Australia’s best-known glow worm site via the Natural Bridge and you may also spot luminous fungi and fireflies in Summer.

Drive from QT Gold Coast: 45 minutes

The Botanic Gardens

The Gardens are a lovely oasis in the midst of the city. With 31 hectares of parkland and lakes, there is plenty to see and do. Hit the boardwalks around the lake, sit back and relax with a delicious picnic or run amuck at the fab children’s playground.

Visit the Country Garden, Rose Garden or Butterfly Garden for some unique and wondrous experiences.

O’Reilly’s Treetop Walk

Located in the World Heritage-listed Lamington National Park, O’Reilly’s Treetop walk is suitable and exciting for all ages. The suspension bridge allows you to observe the rainforest canopy from a height.

About 15 metres in the air, you can explore the 180 metres of walkways across nine suspension bridges and see multiple tree and plant species, orchids, ferns, birds and animals from a very different and exhilarating vantage point.

Drive from QT Gold Coast: 90 minutes

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

Wander through animal enclosures and enjoy an up close and personal encounter with wildlife at this amazing Sanctuary set on 27 hectares of Currumbin rainforest.

See wild lorikeet feeding, Aboriginal performances, try out the canopy ropes course or visit the huge themed playground, Wild Island. Meet some friendly lemurs, tamarins, red pandas or see free-flight bird shows and a host of exotic reptiles.

Drive from QT Gold Coast: 30 minutes

Special mention goes to Mount Tambourine, Currumbin Rock Pools, Broadwater Parklands, the multiple theme parks (of course), and abseiling at Binna Burra that are also all fantastic spots to visit for all ages.
