Non-Sporty Gold Coast Happenings

Apr 6, 2018  ·  3 min read

The Gold Coast is pumping with all things Commonwealth Games at the moment but at some stage you might want a break to avoid sport overload.

The area is jam-packed with non-Games related activities that are well worth the time, effort and the honour of being graced with your presence.

If you need to escape from the Games spotlight for a moment, here are some of our top tips for the happenings around town that walk the path away from sport.

Nightquarter

A lovely mix of fantastic food and great music, Nightquarter is bringing the Gold Coast’s creative playground to life. Step inside to find over 120 specialty food purveyors, designers, musicians and craftspeople and experience the local communities love for food, music and culture. The perfect games/life balance.

Kate Miller-Heidke

Australia’s love of Kate Miller-Heidke never ceases to fade, in fact, it continues to shine blindingly brightly. Kate is hitting the stage for FREE accompanied by a string quartet during the Games – no doubt she will bring her usual comedic on-stage antics and showcase her exceptional classical training. She is the perfect mix of cool and old school. If you haven’t seen her live yet, your ears are missing out. She is truly one to rejoice and celebrate in this musical generation. She is the epitome of wow-factor.

The Big Bang

Beats, drums and rhythms from across the Commonwealth … Need I say more? Big Bang has a lineup of talent from Garifune Collective from Belize, Indigenous Australian musicians, a Torres Strait Islander guitarist, and a ‘global’ beatboxer, amongst many more, this night will be music to the ears. Literally. Let us embrace our cultural diversity and celebrate all the fantastic musical influences that we have at our doorstep and afar.

Other must-see events in April include:

Museum of the Moon

The Rite of Spring

Of course, the perfect Aussie escape is the beach. Soak up the sun, sand and the sea and then get back to the sport. Go Aussies!
