Bowie’s Back and Live at HOTA

May 28, 2018  ·  3 min read

Is he the Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust or the Picasso of Pop? You can never know for sure but David Bowie was a forever ch-ch-ch-ch-changing curious and androgynous enigma!

Now, you can relive the best Bowie moments as STARMAN takes centre stage for one night only in the Arts Theatre at HOTA on 15 June (cue: “We can be heroes for just one day”)!

Headlined by Dutch/German entertainer extraordinaire Sven Ratzke, STARMAN promises an intimate, wild and amusing exploration of Bowie’s life through his numerous chart-topping hits from New York to Berlin.

A starburst of cabaret combined with a rock show experience, guests are invited to delve into the hyper-real world of seventies glam-rock where Ratzke inhabits Bowie’s multiple personas and alter ego’s.

Ratzke will be accompanied on stage by his famed three-piece band featuring German pianist and composer Christian Pabst, German-born and Netherlands based bass player Florian Friedrich and Dutch ‘Master of Jazz Drums’ Haye Jellema. The ensemble effortlessly transitions from the raw and emotional Bowie ballads to his bold and electric rock classics.

Spending 48 weeks of the year touring the world, Sven Ratzke is a unique and seasoned performer. From sold out shows at Lincoln Center in New York, to the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, to the famous Berliner Ensemble in Berlin, Ratzke’s combines high culture with elements of cabaret and vaudeville.

“I’m so excited to finally bring my show to Gold Coast after such a successful Brisbane season last year”, Ratzke says. “I’ve heard it’s the most exciting city in Australia: wild, sexy, flamboyant and full to the brim of art and culture. So, Gold Coast and STARMAN, will be a match made in heaven”.

Prior to the Gold Coast performance, STARMAN will be at the Melbourne Arts Centre. Sven Ratzke will then present his new work, Homme Fatale at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival from 21-23 June, as part of a national tour. Following the Adelaide season, Sven will present From Amsterdam to Mars in Perth.

Come and see why STARMAN has won over critics and audiences everywhere from New York to Edinburgh, and from Amsterdam to Adelaide. Tickets are just $42 per adult. Book online here.
