19Karen, the Gold Coast’s darling contemporary art space, will be seeing out 2017 with three spectacular exhibitions. Exhibitions so spectacular in fact, those attending will find themselves involuntarily leaning back, head atilt, arms crossed with a thumb and index conscientiously stroking chin.
For the last 10ish years, 19Karen has made it their duty to make buying art accessible and affordable for both emerging and established collectors. Each year Director Terri Lew and crew showcase a handful from their quiver of over 90 Australian and International artists.
This year has already seen Mellissa Read-Devine, Megan Puls, Sally Paxton, Peter-John De Villiers, Ryuzo Kojima, Go Suga and Sacha Beverley amongst others grace the gallery walls. And to finish off the year 19Karen will present the outstanding works of two talented Aussies and a gifted Pom.
Patrick McMahon – Colourscapes
This is art that isn’t drenched in political or social commentary. Art that is inspired by the colours and patterns of nature and it works beautifully. Patrick McMahon is a hard-working hometown artist with an obsession with colour and movement.
Colourscapes will run from October 21 – December 1.
Leisa Russell – Pipedream
Leisa Russell is an Award winning sculptor and ceramic artist. As the name suggests Pipedream presents a collection of coloured, cartoonish and scuffed intestine-like pipes.
Pipedream will run from October 21 – December 1.
Dan Withey – The Day The World Was OK
Originally from Birmingham, this young Brummie is a talented and amusing artist that pits the comical against ominous emotions. The Day The World Was Ok deals with the present day social and environment climate, and the question “Will the world ever get better?”
The Day The World Was OK will run from October 21 – December 1.
19Karen is located at 19 Karen Ave, Mermaid Beach and is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10am – 5pm.
