TedxYouth Canberra

Passion is a funny thing. Where does it come from? How do you catch it? How do you keep it?

According to the champions over at Ted Talks, the masters of inspiring conversations with intriguing people, passion comes from finding your fire and then just feeding it a whole bunch of dry wood and flammable liquid like unleaded fuel. Metaphorically, of course.

Speaking of those in-the-know smarties over at Ted, Canberra is about to play host to the TedxYouth, this weekend!

For those of you at the back, let me catch you up. Tedx Talks are ones that are like a franchise of the big brother that is a Ted Talk. Organised independently, though with the love and support of the bigger events. Then when you whack the Youth sticker over it, you get an event that is geared towards a younger crowd with relatable stories to tell. If you don’t fall into the Youth sector anymore, don’t be put off, sometimes you need to hear a story from an inspiring young mind to find your life’s passion… maybe not, it might just breed loathing.

If you were to head over to the Canberra College of Performing Arts Centre this weekend, you’ll find yourself quite the lineup of raw inspiration. Here’s a little on each to tempt you further:

Guyy & the Fox, the talented duo of have spent the last couple of years on the road touring South Africa and the Middle East, showing off their unique sound.

Hannah Wandel, the CEO of Country to Canberra and Director of the National Rural Women’s Coalition. Hannah focuses a lot of her time empowering young women living in the remote parts of Australia to take on leadership roles, while also being social policy adviser to the Prime Minister’s office.

Joe Duggan, a former Marine Scientist, Joe has spent the last couple of years taking about ‘Is this how you feel’, a project that aims to discuss the human side of climate change. Rather poignant.

Katie Bender, a former professional gymnast and freestyle aerial skier, now pulling focus on her documentary filmmaking. Katie’s latest project ‘The Will to Fly’ won two awards at the Whistler Film Festival and is now studied for it’s motivational and leadership stories.

As you read over the four above, tell me you can feel some damn good stories coming your way. Remember the pursuit for passion needs fuel for the fire… this is it.

TedxYouth Canberra is on Sunday, February 19.
