Summer Activities

Man it’s a hot one, like seven inches from the midday sun
– Rob Thomas

Look outside, it’s hot. It’s pretty much above thirty for the rest of the summer season (not entirely true). With all this heat out there, it’s time to gather the gang and have a long lunch, enjoy a number of bottles of some summer white wine and enjoy all this in an air-conditioned setting.

Or you could head straight to your nearest naturally made nudist pool to hang loose.

Though if neither of those things tickle your fancy, you could always grab a boat and sail Lake Burley Griffin – wait for the afternoon winds for a little challenge to spice it up.

Summer is a tricky one in Canberra, we’re usually used to cold nights and alpine frost, so from us to you, here is a little summer guide to escaping the heat.

Sail Lake Burley Griffin
Just a moments walk from the doors of QT Canberra, you’ll find the territories best lake, as rated by TripAdvisor reviewers (for fun, here is a link to the 7 people that rated the lake with a 1-star review). You can hire boats from Canberra Yacht Club. They will set you up with all the safety equipment that you need and offer some friendly advice. Now it’s warm and this is all about escaping the heat, jump in. Then get back out. Refreshed.

Kambah Pool
In the mood to hang out with like-minded people, away from any judgement? Kambah Pool is fed by the Murrumbidgee River and is located about 20 minutes from Canberra. Once you get to the car park, you have decision to make. Take the path to the left and you’ll arrive at the river’s edge in no time. Take a tight right though and you’ll begin a small walk to the hottest nudist bathing area the capital has to offer. The water maintains that alpine chill and is a perfect spot to escape from the hot summer days, in your bathing suit or not.

Capitol Bar and Grill
Forget the bias that this comes with and order the Minute Steak. You won’t regret it. It’s lunchtime and you and the gang are feeling a little peckish. Head to the Capitol Bar and Grill at QT Canberra for a long lunch in the bar. The menu has everything you need to refuel and the wine list is stocked with the juice you want. From the fine food mind of Robert Marchetti, Capitol Bar and Grill plays with the classic, old school era dishes, while adding a contemporary twist to refine them just a little.
