Autumn is arguably the best time of year in Canberra. Temperate days and crisp evenings, a soft rose light that is perfect for selfies (obvs important). An absence of Summer creepy crawlies, Spring crazed magpies and the frosted cars of Winter. Yes, Autumn in Canberra is juuuust right, as Goldilocks would say.

It is also a time of year when Canberra shines, metaphorically and literally, as a cultural destination to be reckoned with. Particularly due to a festival so spectacular, it lights up the sky. Enlighten is its name, and it is illuminating Canberra from March 3 – 12.

This year’s Enlighten festival will once again light up the inner-city and transform our Parliamentary Triangle into a nocturnal playground of curious events and exclusive experiences. Akin to Sydney’s Vivid Festival and no less spectacular, 10 cultural institutions will be illuminated during the festival and many will open their doors after hours to host new and exciting events.

Of course, then there are the noodles! The much-loved Enlighten Night Noodle Markets are returning this year and are said to be bigger and better. As the spectacular light-shows begin around you, tuck into Asian delights while enjoying a picnic and soaking in the market atmosphere.

With an amazing program of events, we have rounded up our top-three picks of the festival:

PEDALEANDO HACIA EL CIELO PARADE- King Edward Terrace
A spectacular parade of enchanting dancers and apparitions, set on a cycling adventure. Watch as a fairy tale unfolds, filled with amazing dancing acts, breath-taking illuminated costumes and props. The bike parade will excite, inspire and delight spectators.

PURE IMAGINATION The Science of Gin- Questacon
Indulge in bespoke gin while learning about the art of distillation and infusion. Taste refined flavours as you discover the science of gin. Held in the heart of Questacon, which specialises in interactive learning, this is one of the most unique gin master classes in Australia. This adult only event features artisan gin created with a rich aroma derived from botanical extracts.

LUXURY AT VERSAILLES: National Gallery of Australia
Magical night time parties were legendary at Versailles. Live like King Louis XIV, enjoy a glass of champagne with premium access to Versailles: Treasures from the Palace.
