FASHFEST Spotlight: NYNE

Sep 11, 2017  ·  2 min read

When it comes to FASHFEST and the labels on show, it can become a little loud with so much talent on offer during Canberra’s number one fashion festival.

As official supporters of the fashion event, we here at QT Canberra want to help you out a little bit by highlighting a number of labels that will be showcasing their creative ways on the catwalk, in the not too distant future.

So welcome to the first in our FASHFEST Spotlight Series; helping you get to know the back story on designer talent.

Over the ditch, in the land of the long white cloud that they call Aotearoathere is an innovative fashion scene that holds its own internationally.

So welcome to a little seaside town named Mount Maunganui. Situated on the East Coast, a little south of Auckland, Maunganui is home to a brand that you have might’ve already heard of – NYNE, an independent New Zealand made women’s fashion label. Nyne was the brain child of three designers, Tina Patrick, Miranda Dawson and Jacob Scott-Simmonds who created this highly creative label back in 2004.

13 years on, the brand is now stocked across Australia and New Zealand and has gained a rather niche following with their unique pieces. The label is all about uncomplicated layering while holding a rather moody aesthetic that can be found throughout this season’s collection.

The Department of the Exterior in Manuka, which sells NYNE exclusively in Canberra, will be presenting pieces from the launch of the label’s S/S collection titled ‘image 18’, which draws inspiration from the pop culture lord that is Andy Warhol and his Polaroid portrait series.

2017 will see the first showing of NYNE at FASHFEST and we here at QT Canberra are stoked to check out what they’ve been working on. NYNE will be showcasing at FASHFEST on closing night at 9.00pm.

FASHFEST takes over Canberra from September 28 – 30 – more details HERE.
