Canberra’s Most Drinkable Cocktails

Jul 27, 2016  ·  2 min read

By Ashleigh Went.

Treat yo’self. Those are the words I tell myself every time I order a cocktail and I believe that’s exactly what a cocktail is: a beautiful indulgence, something that sits in the middle of the spectrum between a glass of wine and a dessert. A cocktail is the perfect antidote to a long day, a divine way to ease into an evening of revelry, a luxurious addition to a romantic rendezvous. As a lady well versed in the art of cocktail drinking, let me help you in navigate the utterly delightful labyrinth that is Canberra’s cocktail scene.

AKIBA – Fukushima Zombie

This modern Asian restaurant made headlines when they won the Australian Financial Review Top Restaurants People’s Choice for 2016, and for good reason. The bright neon lights make you feel you’re standing on the streets of Tokyo and the vibe is electric. There’s a lot more on offer at AKIBA than just the food – though the pork belly buns and the beef short rib are hella delicious. Have a geez at the cocktail menu where you’ll find some unique offerings. Our pick? The Fukushima Zombie, with a secret blend of rums, triple citrus and ginger, topped with a flaming lime.

Capitol Bar & Grill – Eastside Daiquiri

Capitol Bar & Grill is well known for its signature antipasto table mix and prime cut steaks, but it’s also the perfect spot to indulge in a cocktail. Order an Eastside Daiquiri – Cucumber Bacardi Carta Blanca, fresh lemon, elderflower cordial and mint – and cosy up by the gas fire or grab a seat by the bar and watch the world go by.

Lucky’s Speakeasy – QT Old Fashioned

It’s no secret that Lucky’s is the place to get sauced in secret. Settle into a booth, order some delish snacks and the signature Barrel Aged QT Old Fashioned: Woodford Reserve Bourbon, vanilla demerara sugar, Reagan’s Orange Bitters, Angostura Bitters, orange swizzle and Kirsch infused cherry. Oh so good.
