If you find yourself needing to get a run in when you’re next in the Capital, fear not. We here at QT Canberra love nothing more than an 8km run as the sun rises on this piece of paradise named Canberra. With so many places to run, here’s our guide on the top four runs around Canberra that leave you feeling totally gassed, but damn glad that you did.
Mount Ainslie
Let’s start with one of the toughest runs that you can do in the capital. Ainslie sits at 843 meters above the city and can be accessed via road. But that’s no fun. On the city side of the mountain, you’ll find a track that leads straight to the summit. Almost. The track adds a number of twists and turns while you climb the 800 meters. Throw in a run from QT and back and you have yourself a session for the books. The view is worth the hard work.
Lake Burley Griffin
Depending on how addicted to the running burn you are, Lake Burley Griffin can cater to all sorts. There is a nice 5km circuit from Commonwealth to Kings Avenue. Or run the whole bloody lake for a nice 30km+ trek. Maybe leave this one alone unless you’re hitting your marathon training pretty hard.
Parliament House
Exercise your democratic right and run around Australia’s Parliament House. The best thing about this route is the familiar faces that you might run into. From the Prime Minister to the backbenches, everyone’s at it and after a couple laps around The House, there is no better place to stretch out than on the lawn out the front.
Room Service
This one is great. It involves you not leaving your bed. The sun will be just about to shine it’s rather bright morning rays over the capital, making it the perfect time to pick up the phone and order a little room service. Wait in bed, and just like magic, food will appear. This one is for those that need a little rest. Don’t overdo it. Look after yourself and really listen to your body.
