Four Canberra Events You Didn’t Know Were On

With all that’s going on over the silly season, these are but a few of the choice cuts when it comes to Canberra events…

Anthony Pappa

The Big Pappa when on the decks, Anthony is known as a DJ’s DJ. If he’s playing at a club nearby, you should make it your mission to get involved. Now, the details on this supposed gig are hazy, but word has it he’s going to be laying down his groove with KAZUKI, Trilobite and Perdy this Saturday night. Keep an ear to the ground and drinks on ice.

Anthony Pappa is said to be playing December 16, potentially in Queanbeyan.

Home is where the heat is

So you think you can glass? Think again, rookie. To celebrate the tenth birthday of Australia’s only cultural centre that is wholly dedicated to contemporary glass art, Curator Jane Cush has invited a bunch of artists who have taught, hired and worked at the Glassworks over the years. The exhibition will showcase site-specific works by these studio artists in an activation that will take over the whole complex.

‘Home is where the heat is’ will run from October 26 to January 14 at Canberra Glassworks.

Unfinished Business

This moving and much-needed photographic exhibition by award winning artist Belinda Mason tells the stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disabilities. “Every story is complex and intertwined with Australia’s political and social history, which has resulted in today’s unacceptably high rates of disability in Aboriginal and Torres Strait communities,” said Ms Mason.

‘Unfinished Business’ will run from December 1 – January 20 at Tuggeranong Arts Centre.

Kate Miller-Heidke

The classically trained and ARIA, APRA and Helpmann award-winning songstress is bringing her brand of neo pop-folk-opera and a string quartet to the National Museum Australia. ‘By The Water’ is set to be a very pleasant and first date-worthy gig. A sunset concert to unashamedly sing, spill drinks and sway arm in arm with your partner or friends.

Kate Miller-Heidke’s ‘By The Water’ is playing February 10 at the National Museum Australia Amphitheatre. Tickets can be purchased on the NMA website
