Centennial Park Gets Festive

Not too far from the golden shores of Bondi Beach lies 189 hectares of lush green parklands. Known as the lungs of the city, Centennial Park is one of the world’s leading public parklands with a huge expanse of natural beauty filled with formal gardens, ponds, grand avenues, historic statues and heritage buildings.

In 1888, the Parklands were dedicated as a public open space for the enjoyment of the people of NSW. Since then, it’s been a hotspot for strollers, joggers, cyclists and horse-riders with the vast grasslands offering the perfect spot for a game of touch footy or a picnic in the sun.

There are all sorts of ways you can spend your day in Centennial Park but probably none better than enjoying the sunshine with a bevy in one hand, fried chicken in the other and big tunes being belted out for you and all your mates.

At the end of Feb, that’s exactly what’s on offer when the legends responsible for Falls Festival and Splendour in the Grass take over Centennial Parklands for an all-ages block party, Sydney City Limits.

The Aussie spin-off of Texas’ legendary event Austin City Limits, the festival will make its debut in our Harbour city for a one day celebration of culture, art, food and bloody good music.

With over 30+ acts sprinkled over four stages, it boasts a bill that’s hotter than a Bunnings sausage sizzle and ten times as tasty. They’ve brought along a few international heavyweights with the likes of Justice, Beck and Phoenix joining the stacked line up that also features homegrown heroes Vance Joy, Tash Sultana and Gang of Youths.

There will be plenty to wrap your mouth around as well, with eats and treats being supplied by local Sydney foodies and chefs, including hometown favourites Mary’s Newtown and The Unicorn in Paddington.

Sydney’s best up and coming artists will be flaunting their paints, photos, street art and glorious fashion in an open-air gallery space offering snapshots of the city seen through their eyes. You can even pick up a unique piece to take home at the Makers Market, where the local artisans will be peddling their merch.

Of course, being an all-ages affair, there’ll be plenty on offer for the pint-sized party people at Kiddy City Limits – a rugrat wonderland within the festival packed with activities, workshops and a silent disco!

When: Festivities kick off at 11am on the 24th February and will wind down around 11pm.
