Dual Dreams: QT Bondi X STAB Magazine

At QT Bondi, we froth on a good surf. Whether it’s at South Bondi, Tam or Bronte, we all get a little giddy when a solid swell rocks into town. Being based in the heart of Bondi, it’s something that’s hard to escape. Though there is something about getting a group of your mates together and hitting the road that gets us equally giddy.

Surf trips are about hunting waves and just straight out stoking on the whole journey. The team over at STAB recently stopped by with two damn fine national legends, Craig Anderson and Ozzie Wright before they headed out on twin fin adventure.

If you’re unfamiliar with the duo, let me introduce them:

Craig Anderson, born in South Africa, grew up on the sunny shores of Newcastle. The dude has been called many things in his time. Award winning surf journo, Jed Smith once said that he was one of the most recognisable surfers in the world, due to his enthusiasm and the vagrant life that he leads. Top words there Jed.

Without a doubt Anderson shreds and in the recent months has forgone the need of a sponsor, freeing him up for surf trips with a moments notice.

Ozzie Wright, self-confessed twin fin devotee and serious art maker. Oz grew up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, learning to shred from a young age. Trademarking his style with insane aerial surfing while being less concerned with form, cemented Oz as an inspiration for the generations.

Not to be outdone by his surf career, the guy is also the lead singer for the Goons of Doom – Australia’s premier, semi-punk, surf nation loving ensemble.

From the comfortable setting of QT Bondi the boys left on a trip to West Australia to hunt down some mad looking right-handers, packing their board bags with six vintage twin fins.

The lads were met with some sweet conditions, crushing the myth that twin fins were only good for small, onshore close outs. With swells of eight to 10 feet, the boys opted for boards ranging from 5’3 to 5’10’s.

Ozzie and Anderson enjoyed a trip stacked with dolphins, Emu Export and interesting locals.

Screw progression – twin fins, unlike print, aren’t dead just yet.
