How bloody good’s this winter been??!
26-degree days in the coldest month of the year, non-stop winter swells serving up Bondi Beach barrels and dolphins and whales waving as they go past the headlands.
Yep, living in Bondi makes winter a lot easier to cope with.
Not all is as it seems though… As pristine as it appears when you’re gazing out from the golden shores of Bondi Beach into the endless abyss that is the Pacific Ocean, under the surface lies the devastating impact of humanity’s conquest of Planet Earth.
Our global lifestyle of reckless consumption means we’re polluting the world at an astonishing rate and poisoning the planet that gives us life. Globally we are producing nearly 300 million tons of plastic every year, 50% of which is single use and only roughly 5% of which we ever recover. All that plastic has to go somewhere, and unfortunately, a shitload of it ends up in our oceans. Over 8 million tons of it every year to be precise.
This doesn’t just mean chip packets and water bottles in your barrels either… It means the destruction of entire ecosystems. About one million sea birds and 100,000 marine mammals have been killed annually in our oceans from entangling themselves, ingesting, and suffocating in our plastic waste.
Luckily, there are a few ocean-loving legends floating around who are determined to clean up our seas.
Corona x Parley is a new alliance in the movement to end marine plastic pollution. The creative collaboration aims to connect the Parley AIR Strategy:
