Bowl-A-Rama 2017

words by ben stephens

It’s so close you can taste it.

Actually, it’s so close you can smell the dark turquoise paint being applied to the Bondi skate bowl as the sponsor decals are stuck on.

Bowl-A-Rama 2017 is gearing up to hit the bubble this weekend and as the official accommodation partner, we couldn’t be any more stoked.

Starting with rooftop skate hangs with a bunch of professionals in Miranda, then two huge days of bowl skate action only to be topped off by an after party that will no doubt be one that’ll be forgotten, Bowl-A-Rama 2017 is lining up to be the best incarnation yet.

With a rider list that makes Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 look weak, you’ll be sure to see the who’s who of the skating world rip the Bondi bowl apart.

From the big man himself, Tony Hawk to the likes of Trey Wood, Mikey Owen, Nathen Beck and Bucky Lasek. To be fair the pro’s list is stacked with the best.

Equally exciting, the lineup for the girl’s comp is on point, with shredders such as Nicole Hause, Izy Mutu and Sari Simpson taking to the big blue bowl.

Check out the full rider list HERE.

Something you might not want to miss out on is the aforementioned rooftop hang. Officially known as the Max Air Rooftop Jam is happening on Thursday, Feb 16 on the rooftop of Miranda Westfield. A little way away from the Bondi Bowl, but still a highlight in the build up to the weekend. With a half pipe on the roof, skaters like Sammy Giles, Noah Fuzi, Tom Schaar and Danny Leon will be partaking in a little skate demo before hosting a signing session. There’ll be a stack of giveaways, tunes and food on offer to keep your stoke levels high, rooftop high.

Saturday will play host to the heats for all categories, from juniors, masters, females and the pros, finishing with the finals for the juniors. Then Sunday will be where things really get heated with the finals for the remaining riders and the Biggest Air comp.

After all this, you’ll need a drink.

Thankfully, Beach Road will be the place to be after all the action in the bowl is over. Insight will be throwing a completely free after party and have stacked the stage with the talents of Tropical Zombie, Betty & Oswalk and Kimono Drag Queens. First 100 people through the door will be shouted a drink by the good people at Captain Morgan.

Lastly, if you’re in need of a place to crash over the weekend, look no further than us here at QT Bondi. You’ll be in the middle of all the action and you never know who you’ll bump into 😉
