A Bondi Food Guide To Glenyr Ave Part 2

Anyone who’s spent a bit of time in the Bubble knows how good we’ve got it here down by the beach. There’s beautiful weather, beautiful scenery and goddamn there’s plenty of beautiful people too. The Bubble is also home to some of the best bites in Sydney with an array of funky bars, cool café’s and top-notch restaurants.

This week we continue our stroll down one of Bondi’s less beaten paths (and treat our tastebuds along the way)… this is part two of the foodies guide to Glenyr Ave

Lock Stock & Barrel

Around the corner from QT Bondi, in one of the last remaining old pockets of Bondi is this sweet little Deli Diner. The baby brother of the legendary Brown Sugar, Lox has become the perfect spot for the health conscious and those that like a bit of indulgence at the same time. Their delicatessen-style menu is Jewish in origin but based on fresh, seasonal and local produce… it never disappoints.

They are open for brekky & lunch all day, every day and pour out the vino for dinner 4 nights a week. Like all good things in Bondi though, if you’re going to go during weekend peak hour, you can’t be scared to wait in line.

Hooked on Poke

If you’ve ever stayed with us at QT Bondi, there are a few things you’re guaranteed to have done… Slept in the comfiest bed of your life, wrapped yourself up in the cosiest robe you’ve ever worn and tucked into some delicious Pokè downstairs at Fishbowl.

Yep, the sexy sashimi salads were a hit from the beginning and now at Hooked on Pokè, they’ve added a hint of class into the mix as well. The Glenyr operation is set up for your quick, classic bowl on the run whilst at the same time being the spot for a nice, romantic and reasonably cost-effective seafood dinner. Not only that, there’s a simple range of boutique wines, Japanese beers and Saki to keep your whistle wet while you dig into a custom built Pokè bowl.

Mamasan

Down the bottom of Glenyr and directly opposite the home of Wednesday night debauchery (Beach Rd Hotel) sits one of the coolest spots in Bondi Beach, a little opium den that goes by the name of Mamasan. It’s Moulin Rouge meets 1920’s Shanghai and the fusion of Taiwanese street food with Pan-Japanese cuisine is completely off the hook.

Bad Mamas, as it’s locally known, has one of the funkiest interiors of any bar in Bondi and the restaurant has private booths and comfy armchairs to enjoy your dinner with Geisha art staring at you from every corner. Make sure you try the duck pancakes and their signature one-bite beef then stay for the lychee sau wau cocktail… maybe just avoid looking at the damage once you’ve paid the bill
